The Dutch Gardener
Welcome to The Dutch Gardener! We are a seasonal nursery, located in rural and beautiful Crescent City, CA in Del Norte County. We specialize in coastal varieties for our Zone 9 area.
Meet Teri and Kees Oostra
Teri grew up in here in Crescent City, California, leaving to go to college and then working in the south and Boston before returning home. She is a retired Executive Director, who comes from a long line of gardeners. Kees is from the Netherlands and is indeed a Dutch gardener. His schooling was concentrated in the agriculture industry, graduating from Middelbare Tuinbouwschool, then working in the Dutch flower industry.
Teri and Kees started their business in 1990 doing landscaping, and eventually grew enough plants to have a one day sale to the public. They purchased their current location over 20 years ago and Teri and Kees worked hard to turn their property into how we know it today. The business grew significantly from just doing the Saturday Farmers Market, to being open on the weekends, then finally when Teri retired, to being open seasonally.
Our Garden Center
Annuals are plants that complete their life cycles one season, from germination to the production of seeds.
Perennials are persistent plants that come back for more than one season. Often, they die off above ground and go dormant for the cooler seasons but grow back on the same root system!
Grown from seed, these little vegetable starts are ready to be transplanted. This is a rewarding way to grow your vegetables for the season.
Available in sun or shade plants, these beautiful hanging baskets are full, floral, and out to make a statement.
Begonias are the perfect plant for our cooler coastal weather. Preferring morning sun and blooming from mid summer through the fall, they are a beautiful garden addition. In warmer environments, begonias are total shade plants.
Herbs are a wonderful addition to any Spring or Summer garden! We can give you advice on what works for your space.
The Dutch Gardener is a seasonal nursery open from mid April to the last weekend in July. We specialize in plants that thrive in our coastal environment; annuals, perennials, vegetable starts, baskets for both shade and sun and our popular begonia baskets.
Teri and Kees are both long time Rotarians and very active community members. They believe in doing business locally builds a thriving community and good customer service is a sound business practice.
